National Workshop on "Promoting Gender Responsive Democratic Governance"
With an objective of engaging with the civil society to explore and identify strategic actions for promoting gender responsive democratic governance practices, SAP Nepal and SAP International is collectively organizing a two day National Workshop “Promoting Gender Responsive Democratic Governance” in Kathmandu, Nepal from 28th February- 1st March, 2011.
The workshop will advance an in-depth discussion and exercise among concerned stakeholders to develop common agendas and point out concrete strategies to initiate comprehensive advocacy campaigning to promote women’s participation in politics by addressing the concerns and issues of existing discriminatory laws and practices against women in politics. A forum will be provided to civil society for engaging with the concerned stakeholders in developing future course of advocacy campaigning with state agencies, parliamentarians, political parties and election commissions, the key stakeholders, for the formation of gender friendly policies, mechanisms and practices. The collaborative approach will significantly improve the effectiveness of strategies and actions and bring about the change.
Objective of the Workshop
- To develop Common Agendas for enhancing women’s participation in democratic governance keeping the ground reality of the countries in the perspective
- To explore possible Strategic Actions for the Friends of Women in Politics to eliminate gender insensitive laws, policies and cope with the issues of undemocratic practices prevalent in the political governance institutions
Expected Participants
As the workshop is expecting to explore agendas issues related to women in democratic governance and draft concrete strategic actions to address them, bringing together all concerned stakeholders who are working on and interested on this issue is really important. Accordingly, following group of people has been identified as the participants of this event:
