Media Persons Collaborate at the Media Training on Engendering Democratic Governance in South Asia

Regional Conference on Engendering Democratic Governance in South Asia, Lahore

South Asia Partnership–Pakistan and South Asia Partnership–International, had organized a 3-day South Asian Regional Conference under the theme Engendering Democratic Governance in South Asia from 20-22 September, 2010 in Lahore, Pakistan. National Discourse on Advancing Gender Equality in Politics: Reflection on Policies and Practices successfully conducted in Lahore, Pakistan 19-20th July, 2010

With an effort to promote the participation of women in politics, SAP-International and South Asia Partnership-Pakistan (SAP Pk), in association with UNDEF organized a National Discourse on Advancing Gender Equality in Politics: Reflection on Policies and Practices from 19th- 20th July, 2010 in Lahore, Pakistan.

The main objectives of the meeting were three fold:

Meeting with potential Watch Groups Partners at Local Level in Nepal

South Asia Partnership Nepal organised a series of local level meetings in target districts Morang (January 27& April 30, 2010), Banke (January 5, 2010), Makwanpur (January 1, 2010), Kaski (May 11, 2010) of Eastern, Central, Midwestern and Western region of Nepal.

The main objective of the meeting was to share about the Engendering Democratic Governance (EDG) program, the concept and importance of National and Local Democracy Watch Groups (LDWG). The meetings were participated by lawyers, academicians, women activists, political leaders, civil organizations and the media.

Formation and Activation of Democracy Watch Groups

All have accepted the fact that the opportunity for women to be represented in political governance to influence political decisions is an important facet of democracy and thus a vital aspect of political transformation. Women’s equal participation in decision-making and their access to political power are critical issues that have long been ignored and have still not received enough attention despite special provisions to increase women’s political participation. The gender insensitive political culture of the region has made it difficult for women politicians to firmly establish themselves in decision making positions.
